Foundry Lane Preschool is a term-time only early years childcare setting in Southampton, Hampshire, looking to recruit a qualified practitioner to join our experienced team. We are rewarding, fun and inclusive, and our goal is to provide high quality early learning and childcare to improve outcomes for all children, using a 'learning through play' approach to increase children's engagement and understanding of new skills.
As a valued member of the team you will contribute to ensuring children are happy, confident, independent and motivated to learn; ready for their next stage in learning. The successful applicant will be passionate about working with young children and have an excellent knowledge of child development, following the EYFS whilst building up relationships with children and their families.
This is a key person role, and the successful applicant will be required to undertake observations, assessment and planning for the children in their group. Therefore, knowledge of Tapestry is desirable, however, training can be provided. The role includes on-the-job training.

- Has current experience within an Early Years setting
- Has Level 3 (Full and relevant) Early Years Qualification
- Has a passion for childcare
- Enjoys working as part of a team
- Has experience of working with the EYFS
- Demonstrates good communication skills
- Displays excellent organisational skills
- Is reliable, approachable, punctual, motivated and fun
Desirable criteria
- Paediatric First Aid
- Sound knowledge of safeguarding and child protection
- Already subscribed to the DBS Update Service
- Knowledge of Tapestry or similar systems for observations, assessment and planning
During a typical session the role would include:
- Setting up activities
- Welcoming children in and interacting with parents
- Leading carpet time - Show and Tell, stories and singing
- Running adult led focused activities for small group work
- Supporting children to develop and extend their free play, provide resources and opportunities to increase children's level of involvement.
- Supporting with outdoor learning experiences
- Ensuring the playroom is clean and tidy, resources are accessible and relevant to children's interests
- Running a rolling snack bar
- Completing necessary paperwork - daily registers, accident/incident forms, medication records etc.
